As a fan of unique art and design, I've always wanted to find a way to bring the worlds of creative design and collectibles together. The idea of Magpie Cards came to me in the summer of 2020 as I, like many others, had extra time on my hands, and wanted to find a way to exercise my creativity-focused brain muscles.
The fireworks went off when I discovered the world of collectible playing cards, and I immediately knew that this was the place to create something that was both unique and in high demand. And thus, Magpie Cards was born.
Why is our brand ‘Magpie?’ First of all, it’s an amazing looking bird! The specific variety of magpie that represents our brand is the Taiwan Blue Magpie. Taiwan Blue Magpies are easily identifiable by their glossy, sapphire blue plumage, with white-tipped wings and tail.
But more importantly, this bird represents my love of the people, culture, and natural beauty of Taiwan. I've spent over two years living in Taiwan, and I wanted to find something that connected our brand to a place that has inspired me for years. The Taiwan Blue Magpie is commonly found in the lush green mountainous forests of Taiwan, and are not found anywhere else in the world. Well, unless you count Magpie Cards. 😉
Our mission is to partner with extremely talented artists and designers in order to get their work into the hands of their fans. A lot of people would like to collect or purchase art from their favorite artists and designers, but it’s often simply too expensive for the average person to do. However, almost anyone can afford a deck of cards!
One of the things that makes Magpie Cards special is that every order comes in pairs (all the best things in life do!). Each order from Magpie Cards comes as a set of two decks that are different color variations of the same design. The reason behind the two-deck minimum is to encourage the trading and collecting of the decks sold at Magpie.
We encourage you to keep a deck, and either give away or trade your second deck. It’s our way of trying to put unique art into the world via a medium that’s both fun and affordable! If you’ve wanted to start collecting something, why not playing cards? Consider it your own personal art collection.
The Magpie brand was created for one purpose -- to bring beautiful art and collectibles together. Playing cards are something that bring people together. And at Magpie Cards, we are so excited to work with more and more amazingly talented designers to bring more fun and art into the world!
